    New Klymit Insulated Hammock Pad

... was introduced at the outdoor retailer show in Salt Lake City this week. It has an R value of 4.4 and as a mainstream product (as opposed to a cottage vendor thing), it will be available as reasonably priced hammock insulation for the masses. It looks pretty fire-and-forget. A little heavy at 32oz, but could be useful for a thru-hiker hammocker who stays on the ground or in shelters from time to time.

Already thinking of a weight-saving hack for it by trimming off the left foot side and right head side for a nice asym lay...

They don't get it!!! The lady is laying point to point not asym!!! Oh, and the sticky coating they say is on both sides so the mat doesn't slip and neither does your sleeping bag. They haven't started making top quilts obviously. Lol! What they need is sticky on the bottom and soft on top. Hoping the guy from the review site I write for saw it at the show and is getting one for me. I told him ANYTHING hammock I would love to review!!

I'm sure the person isn't laying on a diagonal because she is a model hired for a professional photoshoot. She probably has no experience in a hammock, and doubtful the photographer does either. They're both there to make a nice looking picture, without much regard to how the gear is specifically used.

Every day is a good day.

Too heavy, too expensive and not warm enough. A nice idea executed less than optimally. They tried to sell this on Massdrop a few months ago. I don't think many bought into it.

Edit: My mistake, the one on Massdrop a few months ago wasn't insulated - was 27 oz. Most thought still too heavy.

I just switched to hammocking last year. Prior to that we used Klymit's Static V Lite and we really enjoyed them. I threw it in the hammock on New Years day to try to extend my 20F Jarbidge a bit, being about 12F out. In my single layer hammock the thing moved around a bit - especially when trying to get it asym. Woke up wondering why butt was cold and where stars had gone... Dang thing was on top of me! Some can make a pad work but for the price I'd go with an UQ for less fiddling and lower weight. But the wings would have helped in my situation.
