What tarp for side-by-side hanging with spreader bar?

Should I get a tarp with doors (eg Mamajamba) and stake out the doors in line with the main tarp walls?

Or should I get a big rectangular tarp? Something like this: http://www.simplylightdesigns.com/ca...roducts_id/226

Or something else? Make my own? (have sewing machine, but limited experience).

Superfly with doors angled in would for sure cover two hammocks.

I DIY-ed a 12' hex for my double hangs, it's got plenty of room for two swingers, especially in porch mode.

My wife and I use a Kelty Noahs Tarp 12x12, currently. It provides pretty good coverage for our double hangs. You can see it covering our hammocks in this short vid:

I'm concerned that a hex shape won't have enough coverage, especially at the head end where the spreader bar puts the head ends of the hammocks a few feet apart.

I've never had a tarp with doors - do they work well when you have the doors pitched in line with the walls? Or would a rectangular tarp be better?

We sometimes hang with our tarp in a Hex configuration, but if we expect weather then we fold the "doors" out.

Hanging double you will not be able to close any tarp's "doors" at the head end completely, because of your suspension. You can get closer to closing on the foot end. Another issue is that you have to pitch your tarp pretty wide to accommodate both hammocks, so at least with our KNT12 that affects door closure as well.

It all depends on your budget. You may want to contact some of our vendors, especially the ones who will do custom work, and discuss with them what you're looking for and let them help you decide how to achieve it. That's my plan whenever I upgrade from my current setup.

Only on hammockforums does the term "swingers" take on such a literal meaning
