    vertical whoopie slings slippage?

Not actually for hammocking. I'm bringing gymnastic rings with me while I backpack, and in an effort to save weight, I was going to replace the webbing straps and cam buckle for tree huggers and whoopie slings.

Just wondering if they'll slip at all when bearing weight at a vertical, as opposed to 30 degree angle?

    Cheers guys!

I'm not sure whoopie slings are designed to endure the dynamic forces created by a gymnast on rings. I would definitely advise using something larger than the standard 7/64 size most of us use for our suspensions.

Test your rig in your back yard, over a mattress or something else that will give you a softer landing if they slip or fail.

Assume you plan to hang this apparatus from a tree limb? If so, I can think of a number of reasons that's a less than good idea. For example the damage to the tree by tearing up the bark as the straps move, and the limb breaking off the tree as you fall on your head.

Im planning on having tree huggers on the branch itself the whoopie sling are to attach to the gymnastic rings it's about whether or not the whoopie sling may slip

Gymnastics on a tree branch? Hmmm. That doesn't sound like the best idea. As for the whoopies, I doubt they would slip if your bury was long enough (8 to 10 inches), and properly milked. Personally, I'd use 1/8" Amsteel for this application, and much stronger tree straps than rated for 1,000 to 1,500 lbs. - go for something stronger if you're doing gymnastics!

They will slip i think as the load is so varying and dynamic. They are much better for static and steady load.

I would go a fixed line.
But use a tree is very tricky to be safe.

You are still going to damage the bark if you are doing "gymnastics" on this setup and the branch is probably going to break. Oh and, the whoopies will slip.

Why are you doing gymnastics in the woods? I missed that part.

I should probably point out I won't be doing dynamic gymnastic, it's mostly slow movements, and weight training, in order to maintain a level of fitness I enjoy (I'll be backpacking for a few years)
