Even 5 years into it, I still have great hangs and so-so hangs. Always good enough to get a good night's sleep, but I do notice the difference. Not sure what it is exactly. Then there's the tarp which also plays into how my hammock is set up. Lots of little variables.

What I have found in life is that I have to push myself to learn how to guesstimate something. I like things exact, however real life gets in my way.

I measure off the distance by walking heel to toe. Now, I am reasonable in eyeing the distance I need. I know I have to stand as high as possible to get my straps as high as possible.

I suggest you push your brain to learn the distances you need to Hang. Just challenge yourself. All the sudden you will automatically know the sistance and height tou need. Juat practice without official measuring without a tape. I chose steps because my steps also make sure there is nothing like sharp rocks under me or vines to trip me.

5 big steps = about 15' for me. Nice solid steps without working too hard...not trying to do the splits or anything. So I always do that and actually feel better if it's more like 4.5 steps between the trees. I really like that distance.

This little App for your smart phone is great, has many important features.Great for helping friends too.

Also, measure your stride (pace) length, Doesn't change much over your lifetime. Invaluable. You'll begin to find trees where ever you go. You'll get on to quick set up just fine but enjoy your rigging and play with the stuff. Heck, it's part of the fun.
