    The Celtic Shackle

Well i have been using an improved soft shackle with a whipping knot for closure.
It works really well and most importantly doesnt jam in any way.

There are a few problems, getting the tension in the whipping right can be very difficult, and it has a tendency to undo on the coils.

So tried a Celtic knot with 550 paracord.
It is much eaiser to tie and adjust the tension, very easy to grip with gloves on and looks great. Looks like a new way forward.

Nice. I thought that your old method was the best anywhere. You seem to have managed to improve on perfection.

    Looks Great!

Im curious if this method would be stonger than the previous by not splitting the amsteel to make the loop on the previous model.

Time to start using up some of my extensive paracord collection

Luckily I'm at a Boy Scout camporee this weekend so i'll have copious time to work on knots. Thanks for the great idea, and for sharing it.

Ok I understand tying the white part. How do you do the black celtic knot?

I really like the concept here on this soft biner.

Did you put a cordage lock in the Celtic Knot to keep it from inadvertently sliding off then end of the shackle??

I've been capitalizing on the whipping knot for locking onto diamond knots and put a pass between the legs of the loop, ala Grizz, to keep it from sliding off in error..
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I played with this idea but in the end was just too much fuss.

I find that you slide the knot back to open, and i always store the closed, so i havent found a time when it comes off.
