Is it my imagination or do you have something on your feet in the photo below? It just doesn't quite seem real. Nice report!

did you sleep there that night? & did you get much wind? ...tim
I too will something make and joy in it's making
First, thanks all for the nice comments. It was a great trip, for the adventure, the accomplishment, and the bonding with sons.
Second, a tip 'o the hat to this community. I learned a lot about prepping for this trip by tracking this forum. And I geared up as a result of what I learned. I got quilts from JRB, I got MacCats from Brian MacMillian, I got Potomac underquilts from Keith Thomas (a.k.a. BlackBishop351). I got an empty bank account! All this gear is top notch. These guys make great product. Someone else is now going to have to support this economy.
I put up some photos for friends and family. It runs more to pictures of QC and HLH than is of general interest, but if you haven't seen the White Mountains you might appreciate some of the views. I will in the next week also be writing up my trail journal---again with the intended audience being friends and family---but anyone who wants access can drop me an email or ask through the PM mechanism.
Some questions popped up in the thread.
I wasn't taking measurements, but experience suggested the worst was low 40's even at elevation. Mind you, being below tree line helps a lot. We saw lots of evidence of moose on the river trails. Track prints as big as saucers, and pellet piles everywhere. The only live moose seen was close to the trailhead.
Neo, you were hauling butt! I bet you were sore the night of day 4. Going essentially that leg the other direction (up the Webster Cliff Trail) slayed me. 21% grade for 3+ miles. Wonder if you'd have hung across the trail if you'd seen all the moose droppings we'd seen on the trail
I was getting water from a stream near Ethan Pond shelter when a south-bound guy passed through. He'd been counting the 6'x'4'x12' (est.) planks laid to raise the trail above the mud since Crawford Notch and was up to 200+ segments.
I am blessed, no kidding.
What you might be referring to
a) my knobby toe knuckles
b) my lilly white (clean for night-time) sock liners
c) rectangular space jutting off to the NW of my right foot---that foot is pushing up the netting a bit, what is seen is through the netting,
outside beyond the tarp.
Why pack headlamps when you can carry wind-powered floor lamps?
Seriously though, there is a atmospheric testing station about 100 yards from the Lakes of the Clouds hut; those are devices that are gathering air samples. I think the hut croo might have noticed if we actually hung a hammock, somehow, there
thanks for the interest,
Grizz
