I cat cut mine, and forgot to report that I did not get the desired fit. It may be that a simple dart is required in the end of the UQ. You can hang it, see what is required, mark it, cut and sew it, all after making the UQ. It's a simple mod!

thanks. my beginner mistakes will be minimized. you guys help so much for us rookies. i can't wait to get started.
In one of Shug's videos he attached some shock cord (I think) to the sides of this underquilt then looped those up over the ridgeline. Could that method give a more desired fit - even if you had to have several cords running?
With the grosgrain, do you just pin that in over the hem and then stitch them all together? LB= NOOB Thanks

Thanks Mac! I gotta figure out how to use that insultex I just bought from you.
I gotta learn how to sew or mend things with a cute seamstress.
If what I described before is the more difficult option, what would be the more simple alternative?
Really, none of it is very difficult!
Probably easier than mending things with the cute seamstress, and far more rewarding!

Back on topic... fitted vs. gathered.
I am fast becoming a fan of fitted, by the use of darts.

are there any threads that talk about how to use darts to get a desired shape? Search didn't bring anything up.
Let Darts = Chicken and Hem= Egg
Which comes first?
It's my trade secret for now... don't tell anyone else, but here is how you do it:
Darts will shrink your fabric along the edge. You have to allow for that by cutting the fabric longer than you would without darts. Make the darts any depth you want, but add up the length of the darts along each edge. For every inch of edge subtracted by a dart, add an inch to the length of that edge.
I bind it or hem it after I dart it.
