    Ring Buckle Quickie

I was wandering through REI and saw a small Dyneema sling in the climbing section. I attached the sling to my two SMC rings, and clipped the biner on the ENOS single to the sling, and presto, ring buckle suspension. I know that I could use a piece of rope to do the same thing, but contrary to my name, I never felt comfortable with my own knots keeping me suspended. This is also a nice way to shift the ring buckles for testing my homemade speer 12' hammock for me and my dog...

Have you tested that rig yet.... Our tests of the descender rings secured by a girth hitched sling strap resulted in slippage.

I like it but personally I've switched to the CC Buckle system. It's much more secure and with a Claytor hammock (no ridgeline) I have no problems creating enough slack to loosen it. When it's set....it's really set! You can yank on it, step on the exra strap....whatever....and it stays set. I like that.

Couldn't you eliminate the biner and just attach the sling to the support ropes the same way you attached it to the rings?

Or just eliminate all the extra stuff altogether and tie the rings into the stock ENO line. There are a couple more pics here and here and here. I was a little unsure at first about the rings just being tied in together, but after 3 nights of sleeping with it on my back porch, I've had ZERO slippage.

You wanna bet ENO uses that system when they see it? Great setup, Hooch.

I thought about something similar to work with CC Buckles, but the stock spectra wasn't long enough to do multi-wraps through the buckle. So, I used some 5/32" APS Spyderline and did something very similar.

Doh! I don't know why I didn't think of that since I asked the same question on a similar Hennessy thread.

A longer sling could be a good no-sew/no-tie way of attaching a ring system to a homemade hammock (2 larks heads).

I dunno about that one, JJ. As I'm sure you know, ENO bases all their suspension on the Slap Strap and Slap Strap Pro. You could attach that to the Slap Strap system with a biner, but why worry about the biner at all on it? I think they'll stay with the Slap Strap system. As for changing their hammocks over to the ring buckle system, I think that's kina unlikely. Besides, don't you have a patent on that? But it would be kina cool.
