We have been asked to return for Merchants Mill Pond State Park's Mill Pond Day and do another camping hammock demo on Saturday. I have agreed to do so as the park gives us two free nights at group site one and as the prices have gone up alot ( $45 to $70 per night per site) for the group sites in the last year and this is about the only way I can afford to get the sites and not have to ask everyone to chip in a lot more money to pay for the sites.
Cost..$15
One of the nice things about Group Site 1 is that you can park next to the site to unload you gear and then drive just a few hundred feet to the parking area.
If you want to participate in the hammock demo on Saturday, please let me know. We will want to display a variety of gear from custom made to DIY. We had lots of folks asking questions last year and a few even wanted to get into the hammocks to check them out. If you want to display your hammock but not let anyone get in it then that is not a problem as I will have some hammocks I can use for that purpose. We can also use help from anyone willing to just answer questions.
Food...we usually do group meals so if you can fix and or share something for any of the meals then please do so. If you prefer to bring and cook you own food then that is ok too.
Firewood...we can always use firewood for the caveman TV.
Water...there is water available at the site.
Restrooms...there is a ladies and men's restroom along with a large shower close to Group Site 1.
Tents... tent users are welcome to join us.
If you have never slept in a hammock and want to try it then let us know and we can usually come up with extra gear ( first come first serve )
This is also a great place for kids.
Don't forget to bring a camp chair.
There are not any grocery stores closeby ( the nearest ones are a 30+ minute drive ). There is a stop and rob close to the park that sells ice and drinks and gas.
As usual I will have a large yellow sign across from the turn off to the group site. The group sites are about 1 mile south of the park office. If you are not sure where to go then stop at the park office and ask the folks at the counter. They know about us crazy hammock hangers and can point you in the right direction.
