GG Thinlight, Hammock Pad - packing question

After much research and internal debate, I've recently picked up a Gossamer Gear 1/4" thinlight hammock pad to push the capabilities of my 3-season UQ. I've modified it by cutting it into a mummy-ish shape to reduce bulk (and because cutting foam gave me a brief, but false sense of DIY satisfaction) and now my question is: how do you pack up this glorious hunk of foam?! It is still extremely wide. Can it ride safely outside my pack? Does it need to be protected from the weather? How much can I crunch this thing up?

I don't have one, but I've worked with similar foams. It is closed cell, and fairly durable, so it can be out of your pack. Closed cell foam doesn't absorb water, so it can be wiped right off. If you are bushwacking outside the pack might not be the best.

Another method is to roll it and line you pack with it. All of your gear gets stuffed into the middle of the tube it makes.

I'll have to give the pack-liner method a shot. I appreciate the advice!

Your pack likely has pad loops at the bottom, or a strap on the top. Either one of those will work.
The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.
