Virginia Costcos are stocking the quilts now. Just got 4, BF and I are going to make our sets.
I'm brand new to hammock camping and am planning to build the Gemini quilt set for my new Chameleon hammock. In reading the forum, I think an under-quilt protector would be worth adding too. I'm thinking of trying an Argon 90 material and am wondering if it would work if I attached it to the underside edges of Castor with Kam snaps? This would likely result in a weight of around 100g. Any pros or cons of this approach over separately suspending it? I assume I'd need to cut it a little larger than the quilt so that it hung slightly below and didn't reduce loft?
Thanks for a great design!
Depends on why you want the protector:
- If you are in windy conditions (with or without rain), having the protector be larger than the quilt is desirable. Elastic ends to seal it off would be good too.
- If you are dealing with general dampness and undersplash, it doesn't need to be as large.
- If you want the protector to double as a gear sling, then you definitely want it mounted separately.
Thanks Leiavoia. I'm thinking windy/wet primarily (a lot of my camping is in the mountains). I hadn't thought of it as a gear sling, so that's another consideration. Sounds like I should probably just get a 2QZQ UQP - it looks like it would be big enough to cover the Gemini well. Any others you are aware of that I should consider?
Hammock Gear Burrow 20. Expensive, but totally worth it.
So, the inside quilt is designed (in winter mode) to work only for head-left-foot-right sleepers, if I've read this (and the website) correctly. All well and good for people who roll that way, but backwards for me. It is what it is.
Am I wrong in thinking that if I reverse the directions for the inside quilt (i.e. make a mirror image of the plans) I'll end up with the head-right-feet-left winter inside quilt I need?
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks!
