I don't but I'd like to. I think it's my minimalist mindset. I don't know how to really determine if I could get away with it however.

I have used my slim layered inside a wide and it was perfect. It draws up some when the down fluffs so finished size is more like 47" wide.

What is your slimmest TQ now? How much extra do you think you have on it you wouldn't need?

I'm waiting to use mine alone on a real trip to see how it works out.

Still using a sleeping bag. I side sleep as well as back so I'm worried that it would gap when I turned.

I side sleep also so I'll be finding out soon if it will gap. If so I'll replace with a regular width. I know the wide I have is annit too much but it helps in lower temps to be able to layer under it.

What size are you? Wides seem very popular. To me the idea of 54" seems wide..

I'm 47.5" around my torso at my upper arm area. If I wrap a tape measure around myself loosely that is the measurement. The 54" regular when fluffed up is more like 51". My buddy has that size. My wide when fluffed up is more like 54" fluffed up.

I have a 48" wide Jacks R Better 40* Shenandoah TQ and it is a very nice width for me ( 6'6" 230# ). I find the narrower quilts are a little nicer to use in a hammock due to not having to wrestle with excess quilt material. If I was sleeping on the ground I would want something wider.
