To 40* UQ or NOT to 40* UQ??? That is the question.

I'm in NC and can't decide if I'd use the 40 degree enough to have that option over the 20 I already have. Anyone have any insight in the 40 being a must have option??

Summers can be hot but chilly at night. How do you feel at 60 degrees w/ a 20 UQ? Too hot? If so, maybe a 40 would be nice.

That's the question. I'll really need to use the 20 and determine my needs I suppose.

I personally like mine because it was made from the Costco Down Throw (CDT). Cheap, light, effective. I've made like 5 now.

Are you more of hiker or a camper? A lighter quilt doesn't pay off so much in comfort at night as in weight during the day. The 40° quilt weighs ~6oz less than the 20° quilt. If you're putting in big mile days and have already cut gear to get your pack weight down, that'll be a noticeable difference.

If you're a hiker, then 40* quilts will save ounces, which will be much appreciated in warmer weather. If you're not a hiker, stick with 20* quilts. I used my 20* quilts for two years before finally getting some 40* (and 0* quilts).

Do you now have an Incubator or a Phoenix? The difference between Incubators is about six ounces; between Phoenixes only four ounces. But, if you were going from a 20° Incubator to a 40° Phoenix, you would be dropping almost eleven ounces. (Assuming standard lengths on the Incubators.) Not that I would sneer at four ounces.

It is down. I don't want synthetic. Love downy goodness!
