That's one reason I made mine with a SEEP (Side Entry/Exit Portal). The other reason is a slight feeling of claustrophobia that only affects me when it is a bit involved to make an exit.

With the SEEP, you just toss the opening up and get out like normal. It holds a little heat in while I'm away, and when I get back inside, it closes up without any air leaks.

MacEntyre, your SEEP system sounds like just what is needed for those of use that can't make it through the night. A DIY sock may be by next project once I receive the UQ I have on order. Something like unsponsored made but with a u-shaped velcro secured opening on the side is what I'm thinking.

I have an eno guardian bug net that has a vertical zip top to bottom on one side. Splitting the sock in two would be relatively easy.

Looks great, thanks for posting. It looks like a sock would work great in the winter with a Black Bishop Sack. It could just stay stowed in the sack and be deployed as needed.

My SEEP is a 66" cut that follows the line of the hammock, and is not velcro closed at all. It's just a 10" overlap that closes itself.

I really like that overlap idea! Sounds nice and friendly to the 'tend to get claustrophobic with velcro' crowd.

These socks are really nice, guys! Keep up the great work, so the rest of us can copy-cat them!

Those are great photos! Is the idea of the socks to go without a tarp and reduce weight or is it in addition to a tarp, so that you can increase warmth?

It seems a lighter color (like sharkskin) could help someone that is claustrophobic.

It would be used with a tarp. The sock gives minimal weather protection but does help hold in the heat. I have some silver/grey ripstop that I used for Mk1. I think its polyester rather than nylon.

That's it. You want it to breathe.

That sounds even better. No velcro to mess with in the middle of the night. Thanks for the ideas.
