16 DEGREES in my Sleeping Bag and Hennessey Exped

I know there have been alot of posts on how low the temps have been and several folks yard testing, but I gotta post anotherone.

With GLOBAL Warming and all, we may never get these kinda coold temps again here in Texas (according to Al Gore)

I have been messing with these Army Surplus bags for about 2 weeks now.

Lastnight has been my best so far.

    Temp low 16 degrees
    no wind
    beautiful clear sky
    heavy frost
    equipment:
Hennessy Expedition (NO TARP OR TOP COVER) WITH ZIPPER MOD
    ECW Sleeping bag
    2 pairs of socks again
    insulated pants
    t-shirt
    flight jacket
    and a knit watch cap.
2 fleece throws, folded in half together and used on the bottom iside of the bag

    Thats it !!!!!

The entire night was awsome, not a cold spot, no CBS, and no sweating or condensation.

The bug net was covered with frost but that was it. I chose the Hennessy last night so I could sleep on my side. I have been using the Grand Trunk with similar success with the sleeping bag.

I prefer the ECW over the Modular bag because of the top center zipper and it is alittle wider.

    "A Proud POUND HOG"

I am confident now that I can take either of my hammocks, and the ECW on an overnight river trip and be warm and comfortable.

Impressive! Nothing on the bottom but a couple of layers of fleece and the bag itself, right? And I guess the bag is synthetic?

It just goes to show yet again that some synthetic insulation, being relatively incompressible compared to down, can indeed provide significant warmth compared to nothing but the hammock bottom.

And that combo is probably more comfortable than a CCF pad would be in a hammock. Of course, if not a "pound hog", the question is does the weight of a couple of fleece blankets and a heavy synthetic bag's bottom section exceed the weight and volume of a good UQ? Or even the weight of a CCF pad?

But for car/backyard camping none of that matters. Or, with the desire to keep cost down and use whatever you have, some would be good to go with that approach.

    yes,
The Extreme Army Surplus bag is rated for -30* and heavy, coming in at just over 9 pounds.

The 2 fleece $4.00 throws are folded in half , together, giving it 4 layers of fleece.

Thats it, no other attachments or mods added to the hammock.

Comfort wise,, much more comfortable than sleeping on those ccf pads.or any pad for that matter.
Just a basic simple set up

Another successful report! I continue to be impressed with the ECW bag.
