With all the recent posts including temperatures, Im wondering what you guys are using as far as thermometers? (if you are). This could be interesting as we have stove addicts out here!

I have been using 2 of those old fashion mercury type thermometers, and then
co-oberate the temps with Weather Underground.
I have it hanging on a beaner on the suspension strap.

I use the Suunto Comet, hung from my ridgeline. Mine is in Celsius, but the formula I use is: C°(2)+30=F°. For example, 15° Celsius multiplied by 2 is 30° Celsius, then add 30 to get 60° Fahrenheit (59° is the true conversion). It isn't exact, but I can do it in my head and it is always within 2°F.
I really like the Suunto Comet because the thermometer is accurate once you get it away from your body, and the compass is as true as my $300 models-just not as easy to shoot a bearing. But I'm looking for something with a probe to get the ambient temperature as well as inside the hammock.

I got one of these used on HF... like it a lot!
Before I bought it, I asked Turk, "The specifications do not say anything about temperature range. (Not on the web site either!) Do you know, or have you any experience that would indicate the limits?"
He responded, "I have never found manufacturers specs either. In personal experience I found the device failed completely at - 47.5 deg F (with factored wind chill)."
Only Turk!

The kind Randy has is what I used to use, but the little glass tube fell off into my hammock and then broke, almost poking a hole in my hammock. Be careful with those!
Well here's a good cheap light weight item I actually have and use for doing just that. Not something I carry all the time but for test hangs and finding out the min and maximums reached inside the hammock and outside ... this works great
Oregon Scientific
For carrying on a camping trip and allows capture of min and maximum temps it's hard to beat this little tool. Got it cheap at REI and had one lemon that I returned and got one that worked pefectly. Usually hang it under my tarp at night just to see how cold or warm it got. And it's only $9 ... cheaper prices can be found ... but REI's return policy and my 10% membership dividend make it the place to get this one for me.
The gadget geek in me wants the Kestrel 4500 but that's a bit expensive right now for a toy ... but hey times will get better!
