Hi all.
Thought I'd share some pictures of my first DIY project.
I've been hanging in my HH Explorer and Safari Deluxe for years. I absolutely love these hammocks. ..but. ..
I wanted a lighter hammock with a removable netting that I don't have to enter from the bottom. I also wanted a different colour. I also like the idea of making my own stuff.
So I did!
After a lot of looking on this site I decided on Dutch as my supplier. GREAT CHOICE! Shipping was super fast and I think the products I got were great. Here is the list of what I got;
Netless hammock kit. I ordered the Hexon 1.6 wide in Burnt Orange. I thought this would let me make a shorter hammock that was still comfortable. Kit came with some draw cord and mini cord locks. At $26.15 the kit was actually cheaper than buying just the material .
I also bought 25 feet each of 7/64 Amsteel in orange and blue, for my UCR suspension and adjustable ridgeline. @ $5.25 / 25 ' this was the best deal I'd found.
I finished my order with a small spool of Gutermann thread, in orange, for $ 3.60.
So I've got $31.25 US invested. Still cheap even as a Cannuck!
I looked at tons of instructions and liked the ones posted on YouTube by XTrekker. Obviously I changed the dimensions he was using but mostly followed the tutorial. I also followed his video on making UCRs.
And here's how it turned out!
It's 9.5' & about 70" wide. I rolled the waste edge into the side hems.
Very comfy. I did have to switch one of my UCR s around after these pictures. Everything worked perfect. Never used UCRs before. Love em! Makes setup sooo much easier and faster.
Made my own version of a Bishop bag. Stores the suspension in their own outside pockets as I use a lot of pines tree in Algonquin Park and don't want pine gum on my hammock. Could have made the bag a little bigger though.
Don't have a scale but it's very light. Could be even lighter if I get ride of the micro biners but they're too convenient to me.
Still have the bugnet to go but I'll hang in it a bit first.
My thanks to the whole community for the inspiration and information!
Bob
