    Enlightened Equipment TQ/Poncho

I saw that Enlightened Equipment (edit: Jacks R Better) has quilts that have head holes in the center, so the top quilt can be worn as a fashionable(?) poncho around camp. I like the idea that it can help replace a puffy coat, considering I don't own a down jacket, and would be able to put a big rain jacket over it to lock in some warmth.

I've only seen one video reviewing this, and it was from a representative from (JRB) Does anyone own one of these? How do you like it? How does it work in poncho mode? What temp rating do you use it in?

    The video in question: https://youtu.be/2CfBrJX5zoU

I personally wouldn't dream of wearing my top quilt as I want to ensure it stays dry, clean, and intact. These things aren't the cheapest and with that I tend to want it to remain either in my hammock or in my pack. But hey you know what they say HYOH.

I have never understood the actual use of such a design. Not a good insulated jacket, a molested quilt.....seems like adding negatives to both end uses.

Now I think I understand what you are asking. You are seeing a quilt draped over you like a blanket walking around. This is not the same thing as a quilt designed to be used as a jacket at all. I have a revelation and it does not have a poncho or wear as clothing feature.

EE definitely does not offer head holes in any of our quilts.

I guess you could stick your head out of the tie up foot box and make sort of a cloak if one was freezing.

Hmmm... let me see if I can track down the video I was thinking of. I wonder why I thought that.

I'm having trouble finding it on YouTube, probably because I must have gone down some rabbit hole and searching EE won't help. But in the video a guy is in South America on a road overlooking a valley, and he reviews an olive green topquilt that has a Velcro slit around where the navel would be. He can stick his head through it and it can use bungee cord to make himself into a puffy character, securing the down around his upper body.

I've been fearing spamming the board with all my newbie questions... the day has finally come! Asking for advice on gear that doesn't exist!!!

    Advice.....

    Buy a down jacket
    Buy a top quilt.

    Not 1 in the same.
