New ground dweller from Ontario, Canada!

    Hey all!
I'm a ground dweller from Ontario Canada getting into some DIY. I've bought a few scraps of ripstop and have been experimenting with learning to sew, mostly stuff sacks and an untested bushcraft chair so far. My current goals are making a DIY bivy and possibly a tarp after that. I've been doing a few 3-day camping trips every year for ages, but I'm looking to get more adventurous with it, hence the bivy. Although at 6'5", most store-bought bivies are too small and also too expensive! I've been lurking a bit reading some of the threads on tarps and bivies but finally decided to join up and say hi (and thanks)!

Welcome from Delaware, USA! There are quite a few people doing DIY here, so I'm sure you'll find some things that interest you...like maybe sewing up a hammock!!! Join us in the trees! You will love it up here, away from the worms.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Welcome! Hammocks seem to be a rewarding and simple introduction to DIY gear (wink wink). Out of curiousity, what keeps you on the ground? Current gear? Weight? Inexperience with hanging?
The want of wandering, and a welcomed whimsy.

    Welcome from Kingston Ontario!
Been doing a little DIY myself.

Hammocks are easy and WAY more comfy...

Welcome from central California. You'll certainly find a number of DIY projects on here as this community loves to modify and create new things quite a bit. Many of which would likely work just as well in a ground dwelling scenario as it does with our hammock setups. There's definitely a wealth of knowledge to tap in to here. For a lot of non-hammock related stuff, you can check out the "off topic" forum. It requires you to be a donating member ($10 per year), but can be a very helpful section in these forums. Of course, I'm sure there's plenty of other helpful information you may find in the public areas here as well. At any rate, welcome and enjoy the comfort quest!

    Welcome!

If I was making a bivy bag, I'd make it out of tyvek. It is cheaper and way more durable than gortex.
