Hiked the AT in long sections with an HH and UQ, but carried a pad for shelter dwelling. And as a bony-hipped, side sleeper, I like one with a good bit of loft. So I was humping an Exped SynMat UL 7M. Supremely comfortable, warm R3.3, but relatively heavy at 17oz.
This year I plan to do a September nobo LT E2E with potential 30° nights towards the northern end. I can go with what I've got, but I'm a gram weenie, and always want to reduce my pack weight. So I was thinking of replacing that pad with something lighter, but still comfortable for a confirmed side sleeper.
I found Klymit's Static V Junior model. It's uninsulated but Klymit claims it's good to 35°. It sports 2.5” of loft. It's only 50.4 long, but I generally go full fetal. What's really nice is that it's a healthy 23" wide w/o much taper! At 13 ozs, it'd cut 4ozs from what I'm currently packing, and costs $45. Pretty good dollar to oz ratio ...

I've been pretty happy with that idea for ground dwelling ... But can I leave my UQ at home? I've seen good comments on Static Vs in other threads, but this one is a bit different with its extra width and shorter length.
Whaddya think?
