I had one rip about 6 inches under the head end gather a little over a month ago. It was a lightly used 90x132 hammock. In it's defense I was jerking around trying get comfortable in my sleeping bag so I know I was putting dynamic pressure on it. It was also a very 'slow' rip ... it deposited me gently on the ground.

I still have 2 others going strong that are actually much older than the one that failed. I think I just ran into a one with a slight flaw that I over taxed.

I don't think I'll purchase any more though. Now that I have the sewing thing down making hammocks from ripstop is just too easy.

Hmm, that's what I'm using - I do have a backup tablecloth I might take with me car camping (bought it as I was thinking of double thickness construction)

I have now made the TCH's and now that I'm getting more comfortable sewing, im thinking, unless I just want to make a cheap hammock, that I might as well use good rip stop! The TCH is great to get you into sewing hammocks without much monetary risk for sure.

I recently made 3 TCH and gave two of them away as presents. The one I kept failed on both ends with my 80 lb daughter! These were all done with a single 1" sewn channel, zip tie and a continuous loop. What did I do wrong? Or was it just some bad fabric?
