So does anyone know how strong

the Polyester Table Cloth fabric is and what it would be equivalent to in rip stop?

Now that I've ordered it I'm just hoping it is strong enough to hold me.

If you're referring to the crinkle Taffeta (which is a form of polyester) that most folks use, it's quite strong. I've read anecdotal evidence of it easily supporting over 400lbs as a single layer.

It depends on the quality of the material. Where did you order it and how much do you weigh?

Also depends on the angle of the dangle. The more taunt it is strung up, the less actual weight it will hold. And vice versa.

Anyway, it's not a simple answer. So, simply don't hang any higher than he's willing to fall in his trial-and-"error" tests.

Thank you - that's what I was hoping to hear.

I won't speculate on weight, for there are other factors, but the tablecloths from TCF were a 2.6oz/yd² Polyester Crinkle Taffeta. They can take some weight for sure, but there are also some threads on the forums here about sudden failures with them.

Edit: Here were some informative links on the material I found....some good, some less than good, mention of varying quality..

A number of years ago I had one and built some for others that had up quite well and none failed.

Thank You Eidson - very informative reading
I'm Planning on using Mule Tape to help spread the load to the Fabric at the Gather,
and I will now do the perimeter in Mule Tape as well as the Gather.

I might add a second layer of Table Cloth after I get it constructed which will give 4 layers
around the edges and then I will ad the Knotty modification at that time I think.
I was also looking at the "dual mode" Bridge modification and might consider that as well.

Well, I'll be - it's holding me so far - Gathered end with ZipTie and then continuous loop of Mule Tape - hooked to Motor Cycle tie down webstraps around the trees.

Wow, even got a little nap in it, I may raise it up as I've got it just off the ground just in case it didn't hold me.
