Question Sierra Madre Nube Hammock Shelter

Does anyone have any experience with this? Right now they are doing a combo deal with an 11' hammock and their shelter which seems pretty sweet for $350. I haven't seen them mentioned on here though. Thoughts?

The only downfall that I can think of is that I don't think you can use the bugnet separate from the tarp.

    Thoughts?

Another Assistant Scoutmaster in our troop has one and likes it pretty well. As I recall, he did have some water get through the sleeves when it rained hard. Many will tell you it's too heavy and you can get a lot more for your money.

That does seem very heavy. What is that bulk on the bottom of the bug net? It almost looks like an underquilt attached, but that doesn't make sense. It also seems with that, you'll need to carry a ladder with you to get that thing high enough. I do believe you can get just as much, if not more for less money and less weight. I may be missing something, here but I don't get it. You could get a cuben tarp and a dutch chameleon for the same money or just a few bucks more and be at a 1/4 of the weight...

I agree that you can get a lot more for your money and save on weight as well. You could for example get a Warbonnet Superfly tarp (amazing tarp), an 11' hammock from Dutchware in arguably the most comfortable material available (Argon) with cinch buckle suspension for easy set up, and then a bug net from any number of vendors, and still have a few dollars left over.

Or, with a little patience and a bit of skill, you can make the whole shebang for just over $100. The tarp costs more than anything, but still not bad at around 75 for a kit from RSBTR

The bottom part is a gear hammock. Any cuban tarp I have seen has been $200+ and the chameleon is $215 (when you can actually buy it). Am I missing some cheaper cuben tarps?

I must have missed something. The nube is silnylon. Where did you come up with cuben?

    EDIT: From SMR site:
"Nubé Rain Fly: Nylon Ripstop with Silicone impregnated exterior coatings and an interior 2000 mm waterproof polyurethane coating."

Billygoat said that you could get a Chameleon and a cuben tarp for the same $ ($350)

Another poster suggested he could buy cuben tarp and a premium hammock for the price of the nube.

You obviously don't need cuben, but several cottage makers sell "new hang kits" arrow head gear and simply light come to mind. You could compare those offerings, or pick and choose a sweet set up.

I think the pros and cons were pretty well discussed on the first page responses. I don't own the nube thing, but I see the merits of a modular set up like most posters here would suggest.
