    10x12 tarps

    Newbie here,

I just did a test run with a $12 polyethelene woven tarp
and have decided I like that size tarp.

Campmor has a silnylon 10x12 for $90 that weighs 19oz.

I could build a 9x12 out of .65 cuben that would weigh about 10oz after reinforcing, glue etc. It would cost me about $200 to build.

Other than weight what would be the benefits of one over the other.

    Thanks

For winter style tarp I'd rather go with 10x12 than 9x12. That extra foot (6" per side) Let's you pitch closer to the ground without sacrificing as much headroom.

sil is cheaper and cuban is not very puncture resistant. (aka durable)

    It is light though!

Cuben also proved to stand the stresses of U/V MUCH better than sil according to Brian's (OES) recent tests at U of R.
