and REI/climbing/camping specialty places- haven't looked for it at Academy but the local bass pro and Mountain Hut both stock it.
KM in DFW( not a lot of mountains handy, but we try..)
I'm not sure how much I'll need yet Opie, as I have yet to use any for projects. I want to coop a couple UQ projects with my fiance. Not sure how I will rig them up to our hammocks yet and I've barely ever touched an UQ (borrowed one on a Red River Gorge group hang last year) so I'm not even sure how I'm going to design the UQ either. It will just be a basic fleece/poncho/space blanket cheepie project.
Thanks for the offer, but I think the shipping is appropriate (unlike many websites) from Supply Cap'n so I will probably just order 100 or 200ft from them.
Opie, how do you test the shock cord?
My knife is so sharp it cut the sixth finger off my right hand! On the plus side, Inigo Montoya no longer hunts me.
For force... I have a fish scale. I clove hitch one end of the SC into the line, stretch the SC to its limit while holding the line to mark the line for another clove hitch on the other end of the SC. Clip one end to something and the other end gets hooked onto the end of the fish scale. I pull untill the line between the clove hitches just gets taught and record the reading on the fish scale.
I just got the 3/16 Marine Grade....
6" between the knots stretched to almost 12" and produced 7.87 pounds of force.
A more meaningful metric might be how far each one can launch an MSR Groundhog.
