    Fill power importance

Looking to get a top quilt but curious how critical the fill power is. It seems the lower is cheaper but there must be a good reason, I can save a few bucks though if I do the lower fill power. I'm thinking of going 800 fp down. Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

it always depends on how cold a temp you want to sleep in, and how warm/cold you sleep

like, if you are not going to be going below freezing, 650 or 750 might be enough for you, np

if you were my wife, you'd need 900 fill, over stuffed to get under 70 degrees, jeje

A 20 degree 800fp and a 20 degree 900fp will insulate similarly. The 800 will weigh more as it will take more down to insulate at that temp. That's my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong.

What it really comes down to is total weight and packability. The lower the FP the more down you need to get to your desired temp rating. 800 FP will make a nice quilt that still packs ok if you can get 800 at a cost savings that makes you happy.

I'm thinking this would be for the shoulder season in MN maybe just slightly below freezing. I'm probably a little like your wife a cold sleeper lol

A 20 degree quilt in any fill power should serve you well.

Yes I'm going for shoulder season for this quilt and that's in MN.

Makes sense. I guess I have to weigh the saving vs the warmth and pack ability , no pun intended.

I have 800fp in both my quilts and personally wouldn't (and didn't ☺️) pay for the higher FP.. I suppose if you are looking to save a couple of ounces and cubic inches, the higher FP would serve you well. They will both keep you equally warm.
