    If you're looking at the needle, the groove down the length of the needle should face you. That usually means the flat is towards the back of the machine...

    I did the very same thing with my Necchi today... seems like the flat should face the other way, and I can't see well enough to tell which way the flute is facing. Rolled it forward carefully, and CHUNK! the tip of the needle fetched up against the foot.

    LOL! I hear that. I just now was able to discerne the flute (groove), and I've been looking at that bloody needle all day.

    I think Acer nailed it, but your way seems to work, too. Tomorrow, when the light is better, I'll fool with it some more.
