    My SmokeHouse in action

I took advantage of the cold blast that came in over the weekend. The low was around 8F which was perfect for playing with my SmokeHouse hammock Shelter. I backpack the Arkansas Ouachita Mountains with a WB Blackbird, JRB MW4, ULA Catalyst, Small TI Goat stove and my SmokeHouse shelter. The blackbird and MW4 were awesome and kelp me warm. A note on the TI Stove,,, I hate taking the stove box apart and putting it together when it’s cold, so I keep the box together and take the legs on/off. I cut a slot up to the screw hole on the legs, so all I need to do is back the screw off a turn, slide the leg on and retighten. Takes less than a minute to do this. I also made a cover with pal-webbing for the stove so I can attach it to the top of my pack like a bear canister.
After I set up camp which the stove and pipe setup takes less than 5 minutes, I fired the stove up with limbs I broke up and within minutes the temp went from 22F to 65F in the shelter. Another nice thing about the TI stove is cooking on it, so there’s no need in taking a cooking stove and fuel. I did bring a small folding saw to cut 1” to 1.5” limbs I found on the ground. I could fill the stove up with this, close the damper and it would last about 1.5 to 2 hrs.
The nice thing about the stove is after waking up in the morning, I didn’t have to get out of the hammock to fire the stove back up and in minutes the temp went from 8F to about 60F which was sweet… Burning small limbs the fire doesn’t last long, but its long enough to boil water for breakfast and after the fire is out the stove cools down within Minutes. My total pack weight with everything, water and stove included, 29lbs for 2 days. Makes Winter camping very comfy…

Looks a little ... dangerous with that door opening sitting right over a bed of leaves and pine needles. Believe I'd spend a little time clearing the floor back a bit. I know I'd knock and ember out feeding it ... with my luck!

Sweet set up though ... I was amazed the first time I went into a stove heated tent on a F&I War Reinactment campsite in PA. Hard to believe how warm it can be.

Just be careful with it ... nylon ... especially sil nylon can really make a nice WOOOSHHING fire

All that dry ground litter would worry me I guess.

But man what a sweet set up!

I've used this stove in this shelter 6 times this year, mainly durning hunting season as a base camp. Your right about being careful with fire. I stay with it when its going and Its out when I go to sleep. I do have a fiberglass cloth mate I put under it, just didn't take it this time... I've use stove's in other shelters form many years....

I'll echo the fears of nylon around a wood stove, but man is that a sweet looking setup. Gotta be nice to be that warm when you're getting ready for bed. I'm impressed that the pack weight was reasonably low even with that elaborate setup, too.

oldgringo - yes,, I'lll be taking it to the Ozark hang...

Mustardman - I'll have to admit that I didn't carry as much water this trip because it would freeze, so I carried enough to get me to camp.

Nice rig! If I came across that hut in the woods, I'd steer clear... kinda looks like it's hiding a still!

Looks good, that's my kind of backpacking right there. I was surprised to see how light weight your pack was considering all the "extras".
