Need some insulation advice for WBBB

Heading off for an overnight hike in a couple of weeks and my friend is going to be using my WB Black Bird double (I will have my single). I have a Mt Washington 4 UQ. He doesnt have any bottom insulation. I have a 1.5" thermarest self inflating pad. Will that be good enough for bottom insulation in about 10-20* nights?

He will be using a sleeping bag.

    thermarest + (10*- 20*) = popsicle friend!

add a walmart blue ccf pad (maybe 2)

I'm with ac on this one. Your friend will likely not be a happy camper at those temps with just an inflatable below.

So I should tell him to go with 2 CCF pads instead of a thermarest... or will I need all 3? Having all 3 seems like a lot to strap on to a pack

I think he'll be OK with the addition of one blue pad.

    Thermarest alone wont do it.

I just slept out in 14dF temps with a full CCF pad and 2 1/2 pads sidways, and a garlington setup underneath made from a campmor poncho/tarp and was very warm.
I have an ultra 20 quilt.

A lot of condensation though. My quilt was really damp the next morning, mostly from the CCF pads wrapping around my torso and the non breathable poncho.

That said my feet came off the full CCF pad so I dont think I even really needed the full lentgh pad, I could have just stuffed another garbage bag or a jacket in for my feet.

The CCF pads were 3/8" dense pads from bass pro shops, not the cheaper walmart pads.

What sleeping bag does he have ??

im not sure about his bag I told him to give me a listing of his gear so I can assess and see what he can borrow from me as I have some extra gear.

If he is using 20" wide pads he will need some side insulation / "wings". I've used CCF wings velcrowed to the central pad and kept my shouders warm. The doubgle bottom should hold all in place.
I THOUGHT GETTING OLDER WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER.

Unless he is smallish and lies very straight all night, he will be hanging off the pad on one side or the other, if not both. And anywhere he touches the side of the hammock will be very cold. I have had no success at all with a single pad, even in moderate temps because I move too much and like to spend time on my side, or lay my arms down alongside me. And whatever is not on the pad is cold.
