    Bungee draw cords?

I have a JRB Winter Nest and KAQ. Both use non-stretch lines for the draw cords at the foot and head.

Would it make sense to replace them with bungees? My thinking is you might be able to maintain a tighter fit between the hammock and under quilt. I doubt my idea is original so what am I missing?

Thanks but I have cord locks and bungee so I'll save you the trouble and make them up myself. I'm just glad to hear that the idea works.

What size bungee are you using?

I usually use 3/32nds for the end channels and the smallest cord lock that will work as a stopper in the channel. But 1/8th will do as well, just a bit more tension with it so I cut them a bit looser if using it.

    Hey Knotty.

I use bungee end channels cords on my DIY quilts and it works fine. Provides a little give when needed.

Good to know it works for you Jay.

I wonder why the Jacks don't use bungee? I have a lot of respect for those guys and would be interested to hear why they're not doing it.

I just use bungee cords on the tie-out-loops.
I have 2 big prussics on the gathered ends of my hammock that hangs down 4"-6", I attach the other end of the bungee to the loops. Lots of give in the UQ, and keeps it snug too.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

    Knotty,

Regular flat 3/16 draw cord works great, weighs less, and costs less than shock cord.... A properly cinched UQ drawcord on any gathered end hammoch easily maintains a proper seal.

Also, if you want to be able to use the quilt in a flat or undrawn postion the shock cord approach is waistfully long and then results in longer pull outs when mounted and drawn up to the hammock or cinched into a foot box.

FWIW, One of the most common UQ alignment/adjustment errors is the drawing of the end cord too much... This error results in a narrowing of the UQ end.... In some cases then shoulders, normally, and sometimes feet pop over the uq line or proper alignment for asym lays in non tab supported hammocks, ENO, Speer, WBBB etc... proper spread for JRB sized UQ is 16-18 inches between the drawn toggles on each end...Shock cord use contributes to the propensity to err in towards this "too tight the draw" issue.
