How far past the weight limit on a hammock can you safely?
How far past the weight limit on a hammock can you safely?
really depends on how hard you are willing to hit the ground ,but seriously ,I wouldn't push it to far ,kind of to many variables to give an answer need more info ,10 or 20 lbs ,should not be a problem but if your talking putting 300lbs in to a 200lbs rated hammock that would be way beyond my comfort level you could maybe get away with it ,but I would not like to chance it most of the vendors have some safety margin built in ,but again need more info
always use tree straps please
Don't forget to take into consideration the weight limit on the straps as well. If your hammock is rated to handle the weight, but your straps aren't, you'll wind up on the ground as well.
It probably goes without saying, but I forgot to mention the carabiners as well...same same.
Yeah, sorry for the poorly worded question and the lack of info. The one i'm worried about it a Hennesy Expedition Asym Zip.
-70 D oxford nylon.
-Suspending Ropes: 10' long 1600 lb. test polyester rope.
-Eno Atlas Straps
-Has a 250 lb. rating
For a 270 lb.(and dropping) guy, is it safe or should I keep hitting the gym and wait for the weight to come come down?
Well, the weight limit is the "safe" limit. If you go above, the hammock certainly won't fail immediately, unless you hang it too tight. But more weight stresses the fabric more and the hammock will wear out sooner. Also, you might not like the additional stretch. If you already have the hammock, try it. 70D nylon is pretty tough stuff. But if you are only considering buying this hammock, maybe pick something stronger.
+1 on this ,and congrats on going to the gym and dropping weight ,I know its not an easy thing to do ( from experience ) always look at your weakest point ,every thing you listed you should be okay ,but make sure you have a climbing rated carbineer and not 1 of those cheap $ 3 home depot type things they will fail ,ask me how I know lol
always use tree straps please
I do agree +20# is fine however I have found hammocks designed for lighter weight peeps will be extra stretchy when they are overloaded. I prefer less stretch I feel thicker materials give me more support when sleeping.
So I will always go for the next thicker fabric when considering a hammock and its weight limit.
