Hey, all. I stumbled onto this site last Spring and have spent HOURS digesting all I could about hammocks and hammocking. To be honest, I found myself dreading camping trips with my son due to the poor sleep an sore shoulders/hips that accompanied the ground, roots, rocks and occasional pine cone.
With the revelation that accomanied my discovery of this site, I can honestly say my life has been changed. Previously, my camping trips with my son would normally consist of a 2 mile in, set up camp, eat, sleep, eat, pack, 2 mile out suck-fest of trying to endure it. However, since finding peace and comfort in my hammock, I've pushed many of my son's friends and fathers to do section hikes of the Sheltowee Trace here in KY and we have covered over 50 miles in two trips. They all think I'm crazy because I keep applying pressure to do 4 season camping...I have a need.
I know that 50 miles is not colossal milage for the fanatics out there, but for someone on the brink of giving it up all together combined with the opportunity to pass this love of the outdoors on to my boys, it's HUGE.
I just want to say thanks to all that have shared their stories of success and failure so that I may shorten the learning curve and get back to the woods. Hopefully, as my search for new destinations to hang expands, I'll get the opportunity to meet and thank many of you in person. If you ever find yourself looking at the Bluegrass State for some outdoor recreation, let me know.
BTW, I recently dropped some coin to become a donating member because I felt it was the least I could do.
Peace, my bretheren and sisteren!
