snugpak blanket vs costco down throw ?

    Hi everyone !

I'm looking for an inexpensive summer top quilt for backpacking and I try to chose between the snugpak jungle blanket and the black diamond down throw.

Both the same price here in Canada
The throw is lightweigth around 1 pound and the jungle blanket is 1 and a half
the throw is 60X70 and the jungle 76X64

Any experience with these quilts ?

the links here are only to show the quilts, I can find better price...

Personally I'd get the CDT, just for the weight savings.

I recently ordered a two-pack of them directly from Costco as a non-member and paid about $40ish total after shipping and etc.

I have both. Both good, but I prefer the SP for its size. The SP packs down well too.

The CDT has sewn through design and I can feel the seams getting cold very easily. Two together works very well, but a single layer has meager limits in my opinion. One option I have tried with good results is putting my down vest flat between the hammock and quilt at night for extra warmth directly under me. This depends on having a good suspension that hugs the hammock well though. I could probably pull this off on warm summer evenings if it stayed above 50F.

I have not used a snugpack blanket yet. It does have the advantage of being wind and water resistant.

I have both and the SP makes a superior summer top quilt. Much more durable, water resistant, not affected by moisture like down, larger and surprisingly warm. Put some cam snaps on one end to make a foot box and you are good to go!

You can get 2 Double Black Diamond throws from Costco for $53 shipped. A little cheaper if you are a member.

25 oz without the stuff sack. I don't know what I did with the stuff sack as I never used it.
