Perhaps 1.5 miles, or just a bit less.

The terrain is relatively level, but carrying a cooler might be a challenge without either a pulk or wagon, depending on the amount of snow. I'm sure that you can get help, should anyone be at the trailhead at the same time you are.

Last year's low was 10ºF, but it could easily be colder since it is a wintertime event, at elevation. Watching the forecast closely would be wise. I say that not to be alarmist...only realistic.

That seems way below what was predicted, and there are numerous breaks in the data recorded for the preceding week. Maybe it's a start-up anomaly. Tonight's low is supposed to be 30° F. Let's see what gets recorded.

Angrysparrow, thanks for your replies to Trugracie. It will be my first time there, too, and I'm wondering what the stream crossings will be like with all the rain that's expected.

My only experience with those crossings was at last year's hang. There was no rain then, but plenty of melting snow feeding the streams. Neither crossing was more challenging than stepping from stone to stone across the stream.

Yeah--that surprised me too. Very different from the NOAA and TWC data.

Just noticed on the calendar that the 30th is a full moon. Terrific! Memorable things happen on full moons!! Maybe a night hike is in order.

How about a late afternoon hike up to the ridge halfway to Rhododendron Gap, to watch the moon rise?
