    CLOSED: Group buy of Tyvek

One of my buddies at work is going to buy a 7' or 8' (he can't remember the exact length, taller than he is at 6'+) roll of Tyvek. The cost is going to be approximately $1/foot. I've committed to 1/3 of it, which will be 50 linear feet. I only want a part of that. Is anyone interested in parts of up to 30' or so (maybe more, I may only want 10', not 20') of we'll say 7' wide Tyvek? I will obviously have more specific details on this next Tuesday when I see him again. It occurred to me to post here only after I left work yesterday where I could talk to him. Mostly I just want to know if anyone is interested so I know how much to personally set aside to commit myself to. Postage will be actual cost which at most would be the $8 or so Priority Mail box, cheaper if it fits into something smaller.

I'd be interested, but the wife would have to approve.

Hah, just fold it up tight, tape it together, and slap a stamp on it! I don't really have a need for Tyvek, otherwise I'd jump in.

Shadow - Yeah, I'd be up for some. The wife approved a modest amount.

Has anyone successfully been able to dye tyvek yet? I've seen some less than desirable results of dying it. That's what will make or break tyvek for me.

As for dying Tyvek, the short answer is no. The longer answer is somewhere in the archives or articles here. As I remember, it came out sorta mottled.

That's what I figured. Headchange made his Tyvek articles and the dismal job that dye does to it. One could always hope...

On the Tyvek artlicle 2 someone used Kiwi Leather Dye with an applicator, and seemed to get reasonable results. Also, folks were talking about using some types of permanent marker pens to make patterns in SIL and I know that when I used a piece I had to make a pattern for some python skins it took the mark well, and it's still there. Haven't taken that piece outside or anything, though.

I've played with it some as a ground dweller.... I recommend the tyvek brand tape for seams or strengthening tie points .... much better than duct tape it's lighter and made to work with the tyvek. After I made my first one strong enough it was heavier than my tent .... that's when I went for the tyvek tape.

    Good luck ... DIY!!
