Thumbs up Wow loving my Deluxe SpinnUL Tarp

Got my tarp in from Brian about a week ago. Finally had some time to set it up to see the coverage and to get the final weight with the added guylines and stake lines attached to the tarp.

First off WOW this is super light. Weighed in at 10.3 ounces which is amazing for the coverage I'm getting from it. Added guylines and stake lines with ZingIt and she weighs in a total 11.8 ounces. Considering my Superfly weighs 28.6 ounces that is a huge difference.

I'm sure this is nothing new for those that own this tarp but I'm so pleased with it.

    Great Job Brian!

    Great to hear!

It looks like a great tarp.

I ordered an ultra from Brian last week and am waiting to get it.

    Thanks for the review.

Raul, glad the tarp got to you safely and it looks like a great fit. Let me know if you've got any other questions!

Babelfish - your tarp is going out in the mail first thing next week, it's just about done and I should be seam sealing it tomorrow morning.

    Must...resist...buying...another...tarp....

Seriously considering getting a Spinn Delux with Grizz's doors for a winter setup.

But then I'd need a Spinn Standard so my summer kit is lighter.

    And it never ends.

But I do see some sort of Spinn tarp in my near future b/c I can't resist for long. Besides, my birthday is coming up...

I don't remember the exact weight difference between a SpinnUL DLX and Standard but it isn't enough to concern me. I sold my sil Macat DLX and bought a SpinnUL DLX. With a beak it'll make do but it still won't give the coverage of a Speer Winter Tarp. For an AT thru hiker headed north in early March the Spinn/beak combo should be just the ticket though, just mail the beak home when it gets warm.

I've got a 2-3 year old silnylon Deluxe which is easily my favorite tarp for 3-season use. I've been very tempted by the SpinnUL version. According to Brian's website, the Spinn version weighs 2.9 ounces less. But, with Spinn you also don't need line tensioners on your guy lines (Spinn doesn't stretch like silnylon does). So I figure probably another 2 ounces saved (1/2 ounce each line) for an approximate total of 5 ounces.

The question I have is volume -- does the Spinn version require any less pack volume?
