WI > Sandhill Station Campground, Lake Mills > 17-18 April 2017 > site scouting trip

    Sandhill Station Campground Sign.jpeg

Yes, I know it's on a Monday night, but I'm on spring break next week and Monday looks like the only dry day in the forecast. I'm going to use the time to practice setting up a Pet Palace and training my dogs to go in-and-out and to take a nap if they are inside. That way I can take a nap too! Sandhill Station might be a good site for a November group hang so I will take photos and keep notes for site layout, trees, hiking trails, etc. Any and all are welcome to join me for supper or for overnight if you are in the area or need to recover from the holiday weekend.

Site Info for Sandhill Station Campground from WI DNR

Getting there: Take Interstate 94 to the Lake Mills exit. Go south on Highway 89 through Lake Mills to County Highway A. Where County A bears right, continue south (straight ahead) on Mud Lake Road. Travel one mile to the campground entrance. (Map)

This site is so seldom used during the week that reservations are not needed. No need for a state park sticker either. Self register on-site.

I will come out. Monday I have class in the morning. Tuesday I would have to leave by 11 to get to my class at 1pm.

I was thinking of picking up a dutch oven this weekend and trying some stuffed Cornish hens for Monday supper. If that sounds good, let's build off of that.

Im so happy you have the Pet Palace. If you need any tips on setup and how to get it situated, let me know by PM. I have found that getting it nice and taught on the top really helps and you can figure out the height better that way. You want it just tight on the sides when staking in the bottoms but not too tight. Its fun to play around with and you will find the best system for you.

I will say i make the mistake of using shock cord on the ridgeline Of the pet palace to begin with and relied on the hammock suspension to keep it up, but that makes it saggy and sags even more when laying in it.

Please post pictures! I want to see how your setup looks!!!

@ "with a K" Ha! Reminds me of Grandpa from Hee-Haw (for those that remember). Hey, Grandpa, what's for dinner?

We're havin baked chicken so crisp and hot,
With tatters and gravy make sure and take a lot.
There’s green beans and fatback and biscuits with butter,
And cold, cold milk, straight from the udder.
And fer dessert, get ya some pie,
There’s sweet tater, apple and, of course, yer favorite - shoo-fly.
    YUMMMM YUMMMMM

Grandpa always invited everyone to eat good.

@gbrugs Yep, I watched your videos for tips and ideas. Will spend Monday afternoon trying things out. I did wonder about using shock cord only. It made sense as far as keeping things from straining, but it sounds like it worked too well. My overkill idea at present is to string a separate ridge line just for the Palace.

Yeah its own ridgeline is the way to go. I use lineloks on each side and tie around the tree or to my dutch strap hooks that are up for the hammock.

Hope you and your pups love it.
