    Back from the Dead

    Hello all,

I use to be on this site every day, learned what i needed and had my camping setup dialed for sure. I at one time prior to getting married slept in a hammock everyday for about 3 years. I used my camping setup at that time and when I got married moved back to a bed. Then by a stroke of incredible luck my wife said she wanted to try hammocks in the house as our main sleeping. I did not want to go back to using my camping hammock and wanted to use a more natural one and she was 100% against a "Plastic Ugly hammock". So we went with the a Rada Yukitan woven hammock. These things are so incredibly comfortable they stretch out and I can lay flatter than any hammock I have previously tried. Now to my problem, How can I insulate the bottom, I can get away with nothing under me for about 3/4 of the night then I get a little cold, I have tried to lay a blanket down get in but that isn't enough insulation and a freakin royal PITA. I tried a 3/4 under quilt as a test and it semi works but with the Yukitans ability to stretch out so much the quilt doesnt lay correctly. We want a UQ but do not want anything made from nylon at all. This is an aesthetics choice, we want to keep the look more natural than hodgepodge. My theory is to get a light weight comforter and sew large buttons on the edges and using the natural squeeze of the hammocks weave to secure the buttons between the weave. Also was thinking maybe even some thick leather buttons cut out to prevent any hard plastic poking us.

If ya have been down this road and see obvious holes in my theory please advise. I missed my hammock since the day I stopped and the fact my wife is pumped on using one has me in full press to get it squared away. DONT WANNA GO BACK TO A BED....FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE HELP

In another thread someone said they put down a few sheep skins inside the hammock and it was warm for them. That's about as natural as it gets. Plus if its inside the hammock then from the side it won't be very visible.

I was thinking wool blanket and a klew suspension, but shock cord might violate the aesthetics. Maybe rafia or some natural fiber rope?
    Thanks,

Can you hang something underneath? Or sew a sleeve onto the bottom of the hammock? All you really need is some reflectix and you would be toasty.

Not familiar with the Klew suspension. However the wool blanket is the direction I was thinking.

Yucatan hammock deserves a Yucatan blanket.
Loud and colorful. Tie the blanket in place.
You're indoors, it wont take much to keep you warm. Double up the blanket if you do get cold.

If you're sleeping inside I wouldn't think that you'd need a great deal of insulation. I bet a couple of sheepskins would be terribly comfortable, but a wool blanket would be more than adequate (and considerably easier to clean)

Do you sleep on it, or is it setup like a UQ?
