    INTERIOR HEIGHT OF SUPERFLY

Am interested in knowing what the average interior height of others' Superfly is at the center, particularly those with an interior pole mod.

Not in porch mode but simply set-up for a typical spring, summer or fall night out with the possibility of rain.

Replies of any kind in reference to this would be greatly appreciated,...thanks to all in advance.

I think that depends on how high or low you pitch it. That is the beauty of a tarp.

I'm guessing that it's going to be entirely dependent on how high you set it however, I will try to answer the question but, consider that I am new to this stuff myself.

Based on the fact that I am 6'2" and had to scrunch down a little, when crawling under the tarp, I would guess that the interior height was about 5'6". This left me a decent gap around the bottom of the tarp for air circulation and rain protection.

With some inferences from the photos they provide, Warbonnet's website gives you just enough data to compute your worst-case scenario for ridge line height under a Superfly, and you can extrapolate from there...

FACT: Superfly is 132" long at the ridge line and 120" wide (i.e., 60" panel width on each side)

ASSUMPTION: Superfly is 72" (straight line) between the tie-outs on each ground edge (typical of most 11-foot tarps)

ASSUMPTION: Superfly has a 72" stance when door vertical edges come together (typical of many winter tarps)

ASSUMPTION: Superfly is staked directly to the ground with doors closed to form a vestibule (full enclosure)

CALCULATION: Based on Pythagorean Theorem, nominal ridge line height for ground pitch is approximately 48"

CALCULATION: By parabolic approximation, with an internal pole mod the ridge line height would drop to approximately 45"

You can then raise the tarp to your desired ridge line height, balancing standing room inside versus side wind-blocking.

If you change the stance to open the sides of the tarp wider, you will change the deflection of the pole mod and reduce the drop in the RL.

As you open up the tarp you will, of course, get more dry space by less wind-blocking.

    YMMV. HTH...

What would this be for other Winter tarps, HG Winter Palce, SLD Winter Haven (Xenon Wiide), or UGQ extra wide?

I don't know about the Hammock Gear or UGQ tarps, but an SLD Winter Haven made from the much wider Xenon Wide waterproof fabric should have about a 62" ridge line height with the sane 72" transverse stance.
