Abrams creek area to campsite 17. The weekend of September the first always wanted to stay in that site. Walked by it several times looks like a great site

Looks interesting. How far is the hike to 17? I used to kayak camp the creek via hwy 129 but the tornadoes and water draw sort of nixed that the last 2 years.

It's a little over 5 from cades cove entrance with several creek crossings and just over 3 if you go from Abrams fall ranger station

I was just car camping at Abrams Creek with floating/tubing for the kids. My oldest (7.5 years at the time) backpacked to site 17 last summer. It is a great place to hang a bunch of hammocks. There are 3 or 4 sets of bear cables and probably 5 or 6 fire rings and the creek sort of wraps around one side of the site. Beautiful area and an easy day hike to Abrams Falls. It is an easy hike from the Abrams Creek trailhead and I think it is probably about 3 miles. http://backpackandbeer.blogspot.com/...o-camping.html

Would you put in at 129 and paddle up the creek? How far? I've thought about a hike in to site 17 and packraft out, but that would probably involve a lot of creek walking and climbing over downed trees.

No way to raft it. Its really rocky and shallow. Doubt even a playboat kayak could do it but yes Thats where I put in. The tornadoes trashed the Abrahm's side so we used panther creek side. There are/were trails up to the old shale mine
