Thermarest Slacker Hammock House First Impressions

    Build Quality: 10

The stitching on this thing is second to none. Think computerized CNC sewing. Its 100% perfect in every respect.

    Materials: 9

Durable. Very durable. Could be lighter no doubt but perfect for cycle touring where a few hundred grams saved/compromised is required. Nasty new cheap tent smell.

    Packability: 5

Tarp has to folded and rolled. Suspension is bulky and heavy.

    Setup: 10

Easy as pie. Colour coded clips buckles etc.

    Comfort: 11

The stated length is 10.3 feet but I measured it at a touch over 9 feet. It is hands down more comfortable than my 11 foot Warbonnet XLC. I was able to get multiple sweet spots. Down low, Middle, top. Right near the top I got the most awesome lay I have had in a hammock to date. Felt no calf ridge. All pressure perfectly distributed. Felt firm but in a nice way. I wasn't even tired but I nearly fell to sleep.

I did youtube them to tell them of my concerns over sizing. Not heard anything back at all. The theory of longer is better has been quashed to some extent.

Its a great hammock at a great price point. Highly recommended .

Just curious if you used a sleeping pad like they recommend? Looks like the way they designed it and the pad that fits it, it almost becomes a bridge hammock.

Wow, that's amazing considering this is such a short hammock. I had a Black Bird and it's no where near as comfortable as my XLC but neither are as comfortable as my Ridgerunner. Glad you like this hammock. Be sure to report back once you've put some night in this hammock.

Nope. To prove that longer does not equal better (or rather: more comfortable) you would have to try a short and a long hammock that are identical in all aspects save the length. I would say that you simply found out that you prefer the fabric of the Slacker over that of the XLC, providing you also tried to hang the XLC without net / top cover and ridgeline.

I have made a 10', a 10.5' and an 11' hammock from the same fabric in the same way, and when I hang them next to each other, I like the 10' least. The 11' hammock is the most comfortable, but 10.5' is not far behind.

I have a Slacker Double and I clearly prefer the WB Traveler XL - mostly because I can't deal with stretchier fabrics. But the length doesn't help either.

I've just received some Robic XL 1.0 and PolyD 1.6 from RSBTR. Let the fun times begin.

No. I'm using an Incubator underquilt. No way would I buy a pad what weights almost a kilo.

I am 6'4" and 275 lbs. I have had my slacker double for two years now and have no problems finding a comfortable sleeping position. I have the slacker bug net also and love the tie outs on both sides, the net doesn't touch my face at all. They're not an ultralight combination but comfortable and durable enough for canoe camping. I'm not sure about the attached tarp set up. I just came back from a long, (cold) weekend in Algonquin park. I have a 12'x10' ripstop polyester tarp that I rigged so that I had doors and it was a life saver as the cold wind was brutal.
