    Western Mountaineering Under Quilt

I've long been a fan of Western Mountaineering and own a couple of their bags for my ground setups. I've had an Alder MF for almost 15 years and a Caribou MF for ten, both getting a fair amount of us. Neither has ever lost any loft and just this last season the zipper on the Alder broke. Just wonderful bags. I have no idea they had gotten into under quilts until I was browsing their page looking for repair info. I know nothing about it other than I love the company and just stumbled across it a few minutes ago.

Their Alpinelite has served me very well. Fit and finish are top notch but for a $550 bag they ought to be. Interesting to see them branching out but it makes sense.

I love my Alder as well, but don't use it for hiking anymore because I was able to save some weight with a custom ZPacks bag. I had them add zippers to get the same versatility as with the Alder. If WM sold a women's sized Alder, I would have probably picked that one.

The Slinglite looks interesting, thanks for posting. I hope that I can read some reviews on HF soon.

Price isn't as bad as I thought--I love my mf Apache 15 but is that enough to sway me from buying a cottage industry like Hammockgear.com?

I saw on one the AT at Muskrat Shelter in Georgia and I think they have to redesign it because when laying asymmetrical it is way to tight and if you loosen it up it would get air between it and the hammock. Workmanship top quality as always from Western Mountaineering. Just my own opinion.

I have two Western Mountaineering sleeping bags and consider them the cream of the crop in bags. I was not aware of them making underquilts either.

To me, this is another sign (along with REI's quarter dome hammocks) that hammocks are making their way into the mainstream.

Yup, agree on both fronts. I used to be a novelty and I'd get a lot of questions about hammocks--last fall on the AT there were times that hammocks out numbered tenters. Like anything good eventually the big companies move into the market.

We have 4 WM bags. The best I've ever had.
    But, for 20° F I can use a Yeti.

I have owned a couple of their sleeping bags over the years, but this is the first I've heard their name mentioned in regards to quilts. That is a pretty impressive weight for a full length 20 degree under quilt - total weight of 13 oz!

I wonder how this compares to Hammock gear stuff in the field because the WM quilt has 8 oz of fill while the HG 20 degree has 12 oz of fill--the HG 40 degree has 7 oz of fill (standard size).
