Chequamegon National Forest Ice Age Trail

I am planning a trip to the Chequamegon National Forest on the Ice Age Trail in Taylor County with some friends. Are all the backpacking sites suitable for hammocks?

I've never had a problem the couple of times I've been down there. Been awhile though.

Deer Flies drove me out if Chequamegon NF near Medford two summers ago. Come prepared. Kill one and 100 come to the funeral feast...

I sectioned that last year, from Hwy 64 to the Mondeaux Esker. All the established sites I passed were suitable for hammocks. There were also a number of places where you could shadow camp. Expect the trail to be pretty wet from Jerry Lake to the esker.

That's "back home" for me. Grew up within a couple miles of Miller Dam and CNF campgrounds on NE side of the lake. Campgrounds can fill up during warmer months, but, no shortage of hang spots for small groups in the area, i.e. gravel pits n such. Hung just down river from Miller Dam 1 1/2 yr ago, one of my best hangs to date. Few people and few bugs in October

Thanks for the info. We are going up there next weekend so I imagine the deer flies shouldn't be a problem. Hopefuly it will be nicer than this weekend was.
