my first DIY hammock

I did the first test hang with my first DIY hammock

it is double layer..
outter layer is unknown walmart olive nylon
inside layer is silver/gray walmart ripstop

I used chain link & buckles from Paul @ AE
and some straps I have laying around
from when I strapped my canoe to the car

my only problem is I don't think it is as long as I wanted it
I need to go out & measure while it's hanging
it is very comfortable!

being 5' 3" and 112lbs guess I can get away with a shorter hammock then I anticipated

since I took this pic I added a lightweight sleeping pad inbetween the layers

I plan to add a ridge line, side tieouts & bugnet like this

so far so good - I am happy for someone who really never sewed before

PS. the pic above is my front yard.
When I really want to go camping I could go out back

Looks great,,, I was going to suggest a ridgeline, but I see one is in the plans...

Good lookin' work. In some ways, I wish I was 5'3. My hammocks wouldn't have to be as big and neither would the tarps. Trees could be closer together as well.

I think I had too much of an angle on the straps too.?

The way I did the ends..
I made a channel by folding over approx 1.5" of fabric on each end
put a piece of cord through the channel - and pulled it tight to create a bunch of fabric
added the chainlink behind the fabric -- added a buckle on the other end of the chainlink
used my purty purple straps from the buckle to tree
