    Permethrin ?

So do I need to treat my hammock to Permethrin to keep the bugs away ?

If so, what's the best way to do this ?

Permethrin works and it only requires reapplication every couple of months/washes.

Some people buy the concentrate and dilute it, then soak their gear in a bath of it.

I chose to buy the readymade spray on type from Sawyer. Sprayed it on my hammocks several months ago and it's still keeping the bugs at bay.

Best to use caution during application. Wear a mask and some gloves. Let it fully dry before you handle it. Keep pets away from it when its wet.

Smell is gone ASAP. No stiffness.
+1 on spray instead of drench on hammocks... drench for clothing is good though.

Just be sure to keep your cats away from it during application and drying... supposed to be really bad for 'em.

The material has no difference in feel. The product I applied..

    https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Produc...rmethrin&psc=1

had a little odor at application, but after a couple of hours it was minimal. After a couple of days, no odor.

Let it air dry thoroughly and you'll be fine. You can also keep it out of it's stuff sack for a few days.

    DO IT!
I spray the bottom of the hammock and the bugnet. After it dries, you'll never know it's there. But the bugs will. In my opinion, it's not an option. I use Sawyer.

I swear by it. Enough that I don't use a bug net even in warm weather. I got a quart of the cocentrate at something like 36 or 38% for $21usd and found I can make 96 of the sawyer spray sized bottles.

I do second face mask or at least using in a well ventilated area (outside). It's not technically toxic to humans, but once I sprayed in the basement and breathed it, it made my mouth kinda tingle. Gloves I guess couldn't hurt.

Billy G, do you have a source for that quart of concentrate?

    How do you dilute?

It's got a dosing bulb. I used tap water to dilute. To get 21 oz of spray, I used about 1/3 oz or about 10 ml, then topped up with water from the tap.
