Bonide Bedbug Killer works very well. I prefer it to Martins because the smell is not as pronounced. I think that the active ingredient in Bonide varies so it is wise to check the label to be sure it contains permethrin before you buy.

I bought a bottle at the end of last year, but haven't put it through a really good test yet. It claims to be a water-based, .5 solution. Seems like it would work. Thoughts?

This has "petroleum distillates" mentioned on its label, so does that make it a poor choice? It seems since it's 36.8% it is less expensive than buying the 10% variety. Thoughts?

Poor choice in my book. Probably strong odor and made for "subterranean termites, " i.e., not for in-home use, which I stick with.

It's what I use. It smells a little like kerosene while applying, but once dry has no odor. It's very effective, I barely mist my clothes and hammock and it keeps the critter off me just as well as the absurdly expensive sawyers.

Just dosed the new Chameleon with Permethrin spray.
Stretched it wide with a pair of snow stakes [capped with .45 casings and duct tape].
The spray settled so well thru the mesh that the bottom was already damped down when I flipped it to do the other side... just had to touch up the edges and gathered ends.
Now I am just waiting for it to fully dry and for the odor to dissipate...

If odor is a problem, I'd use the Sawery stuff. It's so odorless that I use it bow hunting and deer can't smell it. I think that the soak works a little better than the spray, but it can be hard to find. I just got some from; https://www.travmed.com/collections/...ermethrin-soak
The permethrin for use on livestock usually contains petroleum and I'm not sure if it's safe to use on fabric. Don't let your permethrin freeze or it becomes less effective.

My experience is that the Sawyers permethrin does have an odor. I sold a previous hammock that I had treated, and the guy who bought it commented about the smell.... Well, I did remember a slight smell to it, but thought nothing of it. I attributed it to the fabric. Well fast forward to new hammock and once I treated everything with permethrin, I recognized the same smell. It's not offensive to me, but there is definitely a distinct odor to all my gear treated with the Sawyer product.
