Kam Snaps.. Question about material thickness

I am hoping to add a few Kam snaps to a small piece of CCF to help position it and prevent sliding.

Does any one have experience with the long shanks or know whether they can be installed through a single piece of blue CCF?

Second question... I need only a small quantity. Not sure how often I will need to install them in the future, so not sure buying a full kit is cost effective...Plus I need to get down to the bottom inside corner of a pack and the larger installation tool won't swallow that much material. Do the plier dies work effectively?
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

If I had to guess, it wouldn't hold up, I've not tried anything remotely that thick

Thank you for the response and good intentions.. Appreciate it.

There a few other options I can pursue, but to be frank anything heavier than four plastic snaps is defeating the purpose of buying a custom UL backpack.

Wonder how four Velcro patches would hold up.... Worth a try.

I use the long ones with 4 layers of grosgaine and two layers of bugnetting. It depends on how thick your pad is. it isn't going to do more than 1/4 inch. I will send you a couple to try if you wish. Pliers totally work. The large tool is just easier on the hands.

Could you sew or glue a piece of grosgrain to the pad and put the snap on that?

Sew-on snaps are available (Joann's, Walmart, Amazon, etc.). These can be very small (light) but would require some kind of backer material to work properly (I doubt sewing directly to CCF is a good idea). It might be more trouble than it's worth, but it's an option.

Thanks Dutch.. Standard Wally World CCF pad. 3/8" maybe? But that's before compression..

Good idea! Sure I could do either. It doesn't need to handle too much stress, so a small grosgrain tab might work just fine.

I don't want to sew through CCF.. I like Dutch's idea..
