    Preferred Tarp Ridgeline Rope

What's everyone using for their over the tarp ridgeline rope when they use prussiks? I've been seeing several people using Dynaglide but shouldn't the rope your putting a prussik on be larger than the rope your using for the prussik. I've got a 3mm ridgeline rope and a 2mm prussik rope but unhappy with it. The ridgeline rope stretches in a short period of time. So, what do you use for ridgeline and prussik?

I like the 1.75 utility line that we have, AKA Lash-it, Zing-it. With a few raps 3-5 on the prussic is holds really well. Some of the micro lines don't hold well in a prussic but some of them do great.

I use static 4mm climbing accessory cord, no stretch or sag when loaded.

I used to make them with the Dynaglide. Now I use 2.2mm Zing It.

As a general rule of thumb, your prusik rope should be a smaller diameter as the rope you are putting it on. I have had good luck with a 3 wrap prusik on the Dynaglide. A 3 wrap also works well with the 2.2mm when the prusik is made from the 1.75.

These are all 3 wrap prusiks using 1.75mm on 2.2mm

That RL started out parallel to the ground. Through the testing I have done, they will slip around 35-40 pounds. I like to think of that as a safety valve. If you dont want the slip, add another wrap or 2.

I used the Kelty Triptease for the most recent tarp setup. It stretches quiet a bit initially but doesn't seem to stretch further after setup. The prussiks really grabbed the line, to the point of being a little difficult to release. I really like the light reflective feature of it, and can see where it might be helpful at night. You can see how the camera's flash lit it up, even in daylight.

I use 3.8mm Purple Spyderline (1900lb. breaking strength) with 550 paracord Klemheists. I'm old fashioned I guess. Weighs a bit more but you can really get a bite on it and wrench it down tight. Strung up right, it's like a guitar string. I hang all my gear under my tarp and that can add up. (I have minimal sag with a lot of weight on it) The sheath on the Spyder line will grab most anything really well.

The paracord is used because I have a lot of it and now use Dynaglide or Amsteel for most applications. I have a rule: Only cut cord/line if you aren't going to need the full length. Now I don't, so cutting it into useful little pieces is far better than putting it out to pasture

How many loops to you put in the prussik? I just ordered a bit to fit out my tarps.

4 or 5, once you get a few raps on and you start sliding it one way or the other you will feel how much it is gripping, it should slide but be firm. If it dose not hold as well as you want add another pass around and check it again. Go by how it feels.
