Butterfield Hiking Trail (Devil's Den, AR)

I had a wonderful trip with some friends this past weekend in northwest Arkansas. We could not have picked a better weekend to do some backpacking. The weather was perfect; and it was my first time getting my Dream Hammock Raven out on the trail. In short, we had a wonderful time, and the Raven performed flawlessly.

The most interesting thing I found is that I stayed warm in my CDT underquilt, with temperatures in the low 40s. I honestly didn't think I could take it down that low, but I sleep like a furnace.

Butterfield Trail was my very first backpacking trip ever, waaaaaay back in high school! I loved it even though due to a mix-up my tent wound up stopping several miles earlier than I did (our adult leader failed in many ways) and I wound up sleeping in a steady rain in just my sleeping bag. Tons of fun anyways, and I still remember how magnificent those freeze-dried eggs tasted cooked over the campfire! I learned to never again let anyone split me up from my essential gear. Life lessons!

That's a great trail! I usually go there in early April but went to the Buffalo River Trail this year. Thanks for the great pics!

I've wanted to get down there for the last couple. Years, but it hasn't worked out and each time I go we head to the OHT instead. Looks beautiful and now I must go!

I think we're going to do a section of the OHT next time. I live near Chicago and my buddy lives near Houston; so Northern Arkansas is the perfect halfway point to meet up.
