I just added a "Confirmed" column.
As seen in the other threads, the site is on the >> south/east shore of Flagstaff Lake.
GETTING THERE:
I-95 from Portsmouth, NH, is the easiest route, but you can also come in over Height-Of-Land through Rangeley, up NH 16 through NoConway/Gorham/Berlin, or even from I-91 across the top of NH.
Routing to Eustus is up to your own cleverness.
Most GPS will also show the dirt-ers into the launch. [BTW~ there is no "Lodge" there... that's somebody's Google Maps add-on]
Once you pass the Eustus [Pines] Market on ME-27, look for a graveyard on the left and then one on the right.
"Now... you gonna turn off the pavement here..." Go right on Flagstaff Road at the far end of the second graveyard, across the causeway and bridge. At the top of the first rise trend right, and the left at the first fork... this is still Flagstaff Rd. There is at least one other fork to the right, but stay left... the main road is obvious.
This will take you into the parking area several miles on. There is a kludgie there.
You can drive another 50 yards to off load boats and gear right at the little channel on the right. It leads straight out in to the lake itself.
However, please park in the lot or the secondary back up the road apiece.
Whether you use the channel or proceed on down the paved path to the beach to launch is up to you.
The site is almost directly across the water perhaps a 1/2 mile, at the east end of the sandy beach that is visible.
I will try to put up a flag or something, but it would be hard to go wrong.
- Stratton has a great market [Fodder's] with a full grocery selection and a fine meat counter.
- [You can get a visitor's fishing permit across the street and also at the Eustus market just before the site.... this is only about 4-miles out if you need stuff]
- Coming from I-95N, you will come in through Farmington. They have it ALL. Fast-foodz, Wally's, Stop-&-Save/Hannaford's/ Gifford's Ice Cream's Home Stand [like 4 dozen flavors], dollar stores, coffee shops.
- There is cell service on the hang site.
- I plan on being up on Thursday to get the fire permit which "reserves" the site as "first-come" [Prayers Please!], but will probably not be hanging. I have a camp to use. [there are some pairs there if you need/want to come early]. There is also Cathedral In the Pines Campground at Eustus, or you can go off ME-27 on the AT 1/2 way from Sugarloaf ski area to Statton.
- We will be getting hardwood firewood on Friday as long as "J" doesn't fall through with the john boat... and once the first willing pickup truck arrives. If not we can scavenge driftwood along the shore.
- There are 3-4 fire rings on site.
- One pit toilet... bring TP just in case.
- At least two picnic tables that I remember, but they are each anchored down.
- Good swimming hole if the weather is decent.
FOOD
I think it would be a good idea for each individual/group to plan on being reasonably self-sufficient.
I will be away outta-state a great deal of the time before he hang so, I don't have the time to honcho any kind of full-scale potluck for Saturday night, or breakfasts.
If somebody wants to take that on... Speak up.
Fotter's etc. are also close enough that we can always work something out the last minute.
And remember, we get a Full Moon!
